Tuesday 9th July, Earl Crag

Postby Will S » Thu Jul 04, 2019 7:55 am

Its the Earl Crag this week. A top class crag for bouldering and trad climbing. It stays pretty cold up there so the conditions may even be ok for some decent bouldering if its still hot elsewhere.

Otherwise you've got Tiger Wall and Earl crack two of the finest routes on grit.

Parking is here;

and crag info is here;

Post up for lifts (its worth car sharing if you can) and partners.

Just looked at my UKClimbing log book and apparently I 'dogged' my way up Tiger Wall back in 2008. maybe I can improve on that . . . . . !

We might also need a midge forecast as well! :wink:

Good time to remind you Will H that I've got some half-decent shots of you on your attempt last year.

Also: please don't forget about Erasor Slab - a nifty bit of grit slab work if ever there was one!

Hi - J-WIS here - your favourite demotivational poster... :roll:

...keep an eye on the forecast for tomorrow, it's looking less and less hopeful, unfortunately :-(

Next w/e is still looking good though :-)

I don't think I would make this one, regardless of the weather, a bit too far on a weekday.
Having spent over 4 hours last week to get to Almscliffe & back, I'll either stay more local to York, or go indoors!
You guys all have a good time wherever you end up!

The forecast for tomorrow is looking really bad so I’m moving the meet to the Big Depot, Leeds wall for you old timers.

It’s a shame but it can be green at the best of times at Earl. See you at the wall

I know Andy, but Will has warned me of the dire consequences of climbing on wet rock.

Going to join you again tonight, somewhat gutted that I'm missing out on climbing outside again!

Is the big depot the one at Gelderd Road?

I wouldn't form the angry mob, but others would. Slogging up a few VDiffs in the rain is pretty harmless as far as I'm concerned. Bouldering on wet rock is a different story.

Yeah its been kind of a hit and miss summer so far. I'm sure that people will be up for climbing later in the week somewhere. Post up on the board or the Facebook page. We've got a Millstone meet this Saturday too.

Yep its the one on Gelderd road.
