Moughton Nab Sunday 12th May

Postby Will Hunt » Thu May 09, 2019 9:40 am

I'm hoping to do some guidebook work at Moughton on Sunday. It's a lovely crag that I always enjoy coming back to - if you haven't been then it really is a must visit. The views over to Pen-y-Ghent can be quite spectacular. In terms of the climbing, it's a crag of two distinct characters. The left and right edges of the crag are home to some short but steep and very bouldery routes that make a fine place for the modest boulderer to hoover up some 7s. These hard edges guard the Soft Centre wall which is adorned with charming routes on good rock from 4+ to 6c.

The aim of the day for me would be to spruce up the route descriptions that I currently have and to fine tune any dodgy grades and under/over-starred routes. To this end, if you come along I'll be asking you to climb as many routes as possible on the Soft Centre as possible and to give me a brief description of them. Were they cruxy/sustained/crimpy/tricksome/delightful/crap etc etc etc. It's great fun and you'll be provided with a photo topo to point you in the right direction.

I'm just about OK for action shots, but if we can get some more in the bag then why not?

If anybody is up for that then please let me know. The more the merrier.

Hey Will

New member here! Keen to come along and meet a few new climbers. I'd be up for Moughton on Sunday if the weather holds. I'll keep an eye on this thread for more info :)

Cheers

Sounds good, Huw. Sorry if this is patronising, but are you happy belaying a lead climber?

Hey, not patronising at all... I'm a solid belayer and will be getting on lead myself (up to about 6b). Been climbing trad, sport and multi pitch alpine for a good few years, just new to the club :)

Perfect!

As for myself, I'm a complete punter but I've not dropped anyone yet

Me and my mate Sean are going to arrive at the parking about half 9. Taija might be coming but not sure.
Parking is here:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/AZhc8rHz553xPgMP9
54.118762, -2.301713

Approach is to walk west from the parking on the other side of the wall from the pond. Go through a gate on the left to the other side of the wall and wind up the path to the crag.

See you tomorrow!
