Tyn Lon Meet 26th & 27th July

Postby JR » Sun Jun 23, 2019 8:42 pm

Hello eager acolytes!

This coming Wednesday 26th June marks the opening for bookings for the meet billed as "Tyn Lon II: Tyn Lonier"!

I'm leading this meet, basically so I can stay in a hut next to pub for the first time in ages, and my address, for you lovely people to send cheques to reserve your place, will be appearing in the private section soon.

I have been informed that we have a total of 12 places in this prime location (next to a pub) so this one should book up fast.

Info about the hut location can be found here: https://www.ukclimbing.com/listings/acc ... eris-20051 (It mentions it's well situated for the pub).

If anyone has any doubt as to why they'd want to join this meet, it's ideally located in the jewel in Snowdonia's crown, the Llanberis Pass.
It's also right next to a pub... but not just *any* pub, it's *the* pub, The Vaynol Arms, where the seed of many a mountain adventure is first germinated... and where, after 5 pints of 'Old Tom', the wretched shore many a climbing career is wrecked upon.

See you there then?

JR.

PS. It's also next to a Mountain Rescue base - which is nice.

PPS. Here's the 'scores on the doors'! Note I've given everyone a code-name plucked from the extended members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in an effort to make us all a bit more cultured.

1. James Rowe (Dante Gabriel Rossetti)
2. Cath Sanders (Elizabeth Siddal)
3. Paulina Melichova (Jane Morris)
4. Martin W (William Holman Hunt)
5. Graham Jones (James Collinson)
6. John Armatige (Ford Maddox Brown)
7. Kristy Lightfoot (Fanny Cornforth)
8. Will Smith (John Everett Millais)
9. Andy May (William Morris)
10. Dave Clark (Arthur Hughes)
11. Martin R (Edward Burne-Jones)
12. Penny N (Christina Rossetti)

Reserves:

Car shares:
Cath & Dave C: heading up Thursday so can't offer transport to others;
James R, Andy May Baildon/Shipley; about 6pm.
Will S & Graham J: Otley/Guiseley; about 4:30p.m.
Kirsty L & ????: Leeds City Centre from about 4:30p.m.
John A: heading up Thursday night from Wakefield.
Martin W & Martin R: ??????? Wakefield?
Paulina: blasting through the traffic on her 600cc flaming comet of death! (and so arriving about 3 hours before the majority of us) ;-)
Penny is heading up with Wendy and Tom who are camping in the campsite opposite the Vaynol.

We've actualyl got an extended family of 4 other who are camping opposite, Paul, Wendy, Tom (who's not in the club), and Katie (who's also not in the club, but is known by quite a few of us).

JR in not sure you mentioned the pub? It's literally right beside the pub.

Unfortunately I can't make that weekend but I imagine it'll be a great weekend. At the pub.

Well, they've got 'Old Tom' and that's strong enough... ;-)

Seriously - where the hell is everyone else????? It seems to be either feast or famine with hut meets!

I'm going to send a cheque in James,

If anyone is looking at this meet but doesn't have a cheque book I can send one in for you and you can pay me by bank transfer if you like.

I'll send mine in on Friday so if you can let me know by then.

Cheers Will - we'll get this meet full yet!

Have you got your eye on any particular routes? I need to get my finger out and get on some of the harder ones, but I'm nowhere near as fit as I'd hoped to be by this time in the year, so I think I'll have to settle for Ivy Sepulchure or one of the E1s on Lech Ddu.

Can I just say...

For those already signed up, please don't read too much into my assignments of you to the Pre Raphealite Brotherhood artists and models; I'm not accusing any of you of laudanum addiction and/or serial marital infidelity!
Or artisitc ability either... :D

Since this is a week and a half away, it's time to start thinking about transport:

It makes sense for Andy, Will and myself to journey together - possibly Graham as well depending on whether he'd be heading from home (Otley way) or work (please advise!)

Cath will obviously be travelling there on her own as she's on t'other side of the Pennines.
Paulina's in York, so she'll probably need picking up from a station.

Can the others please state their preferences & when they need to leave and get back etc.

Also - can someone please get the meets book to someone on this trip before next Friday!!!!!??????
