Heptonstall - Thurssday July 21st

Post by JR »

EDIT: - how about high 30s in a west facing suntrap (and the potential for thunderstorms)?!

Anyway - I'm moving this to Thursday evening, so please post up if you're free for that?

Heptonstall, West yorkshire's real queen of quarried grit.

It's also a west-facing suntrap and currently we are almost certain to have this year's highest temperatures (low to mid 30s) on Tuesday 19th July.

So, I certainly have no desire to attempt to climb there, and I imagine this will be the feeling amongst the majority of potential attendees, so this is an unusual post in that I'm asking if people are ok if we delay it to Wednesday or Thursday (20th or 21st)? And yes, I am aware we're risking a thundery breakdown on Tuesday and/or Wednesday.

Let me know your thoughts below & I can start the more usual kind of post for an evening meet.

Ta,

JR.

Not sure my opinion is worth that much since Heppy is a trek for me so I probably wouldn't have made it, but I think it's very sensible to change day. Even the likes of Rylstone are likely to feel a bit too warm in 30-odd degree heat on Tuesday I think?

I was getting worried, it has to be said! Would in the abstract vote Thursday but may need to pack for the Lakes that evening anyway, so count me as a small fraction of a vote…

I can't make Tues or Thurs but I'd definitely not be climbing on Tuesday even if I could the forecast temp just keeps rising!

I'm tempted but I may end up bailing due to it being a 60 minute drive with no traffic.

Btw - I'm keeping an eye on the weather forecasts - this morning's update for round here for tomorrow evening was less than conducive...
