Walking Meet - Sat 12th March - Howarth
Walking Meet - Sat 12th March - Howarth
Hello, sharing plans for the walk over to Calderdale on Saturday 12th March.
Meet at 10am at Penistone Hill Country Park Car Park, Howarth -> https://goo.gl/maps/aipXLJdwXcvFqA2W9
OS Map : OL21
We'll follow the Millennium Way down through Upper Marsh to Oxenhope, where we'll pick up the Calder/Aire Link heading E/SE. Skirting around Shackleton Knoll we'll carry on to Walshaw and Alcomden before turning right onto the Pennine Way at Walshaw Dean Reservoir and back towards the Withins on Stanbury Moor. From there it's classic Bronte country - wild and woolly as advertised on the Meets Calendar - past the Bronte waterfalls and back to Penistone Hill Country Park.
There are a few options for shortening or extending the loop, including cutting across Wadsworth Moor or going all the way down into Hebden Vale, but the planned route should be about 12 miles.
For a much shorter option members could cut across Deep Nitch on Wadsworth Moor (along the boundary line) - this walk would be about 5/6 miles so you'd be back in Howarth for lunch!
Bring food and clothing as appropriate. There won't be a cafe half way but there are plenty of pubs in Howarth for when we get back.
Let me know if you'd like to join or would like any further details!

Hi Alice
I'll be joining you! It'll be my first time meeting everyone so if you see a confused looking person in a bobble hat there's a high chance it's me!

I’ll be there! If I’m particularly organised this evening I’ll do it carrying full winter gear (maybe not the axes, but certainly rack and ropes) to get in practice for Scotland next weekend…

Hi Harriet, it'll be great to have you along. I may also be wearing a bobble hat!! I can see you have filled out your provisional membership application form so all's good. If you have any questions just give us a shout. If not, see you in the morning.hewood wrote:Hi Alice

Well that was a brilliant day out in great scenery and excellent conditions. Although it felt like were only ever about half way round
. Thanks for organsing the walk and the weather. Excellent pint in the pub afterwards too.

Agree Andy, it was a really good walk in an area I haven’t spent a lot of time - a proper full on all day walk too. Buddy was well pooped, poor thing.
