50 somethings
After chatting to Ken, I'm posting this to kick off a few ideas for the celebrating "50 years by doing 50 somethings" he outlined at the AGM. In no particular order, and all up for debate and shaping to how you want to them...
A 50 peaks (in the lakes, wales or scotland, at once or total for an individual in the year)
B 50 routes (in a day at a crag, for one climber or more)
C 50 climbers climbing at once
D 50 stars (day for the club, weekend for a team)
E 50 crags (climbing at 50 different crags during the year)
F 50 grades SPORT: f3, f4, f5, f5+, f6a, f6a+, f6b, f6b+, f6c, f6c+, f7a, f7a+...
UK TRAD mod, diff, vdiff, hvdiff, ms, s, mvs, vs, hvs, e1, e2, e3...
HUECO: v0, v1, v2, v3, v4, v5...
FONT: font3, font4, font5, font6a, font6b, font6c...
ALPINE: fac, pd, pd+, d, d+, ad...
SCRAMBLING: 1,2,3
DWS: s0, s1, s2...
AID (CLEAN): c1...
ICE: WI2, WI3, WI4, WI5...
SCOTTISH: I, II, III, IV... I reckon that's doable for us as a group?
G 50 miles walk, run, bike
H GPS trace making the shape "50". Or "L" for roman numerals...
I 50 sausages (BBQ theme)
Edit: other suggestions added below
J 50 km elevation gain walk, run, bike
K 50 indoor routes or boulder problems in a day
L 50 pitches full traverse of stanage
M 50 year old routes i.e. routes with a first ascent in 1965
N 50 outdoor/adventures films/lectures
O 50 mountains climbed
Or even 50 challenges!?*!
What do people think?

Re: 50 somethings
I like the 50 grades idea. And would certainly like to be part of 50 climbers climbing at once.
I was going to challenge myself to try get 50,000m Elev Gain on my bike on stava this year.
I also was toying with the idea of 50 indoor routes in a day, maybe?
Anyone else?

Re: 50 somethings
Happy to take part in any of those except the GPS trace and the sausages!
Re: 50 somethings
We managed 42 (I think) F5's or above when training for El Cap, 50 is definitely possible. I'd be up for doing this I'm also toying with a go at the 50 grades idea.mike wrote:stuartcoupe wrote: I also was toying with the idea of 50 indoor routes in a day, maybe?

I think the most I've done in a day is 30 leading.
50 indoor boulder problems might be easier (especially with my current level of climbing fitness)
The '50' GPS map is a fantastic idea Steve.

Re: 50 somethings
That's the one! Best done on a sunny bank holiday
Re: 50 somethings
How about climbing some 50-year old routes!?

Re: 50 somethings
What routes were put in 1965? Google says first british ascent of Troll Wall, Norway (I just got the book!) and doug scott did first expedition to Tibesti Mountains, Chad (too far!). I've asked UKC for some inspiration...
