First Scottish Meet! 10th 11th January, Kincraig

Post by Will S »

Our fist Scottish Winter meet this year will be at the Ladies Scottish Climbing Club's hut. Milehouse cottage, Kincraig:
https://www.ladiesscottishclimbingclub. ... e-cottage/

The hut is about 20 minutes from Aviemore and half an hour from the Caingorm Mountain carpark, so is an excellent base for winter climbing in the corries.

Laggan Wolftrax trail centre is only 40 mins away and is totally ace if you’re into mountain biking, or there's a sudden turbo thaw.
https://www.lagganforest.com/mountain-biking

The hut itself has a full kitchen, hot electric showers, solid fuel stove and storage for 4 bikes. There's two bunk rooms with alpine style sleeping platforms so you'll need to bring sleeping bags. The heating and electric showers run on meters so bring some pound coins!

Also just round the corner is the loch insh sailing club which has an excellent bar. Shot put world record holder Randy Barnes could probably throw a stone to the bar from the cottage.

Booking for this meet will open on the 10th of December. To book a place please post a cheque to me (address in the private section) or hand me a cheque at the wall. Cheques received in the post on Tuesday the 10th will get the first of the 12 places. The cheque should be for £20.00 payable to the Leeds Mountaineering Club. If you would like to stay for longer please get in touch with me and I'll see what I can arrange. I'm thinking of going up on the Thursday night if the conditions are looking good.

G'day folks. I've not been around for a while but planning on joining you on this one and looking forward to meeting a few new folk. What's the current process re: arranging shared lifts? I'm keen to give/take lift to share petrol and am happy if Will just wants to allocate me. I've got a Skoda Fabia Estate, am based in Meanwood.

Nice one James,

Lifts are usually arrange on here. There's also some of us thinking about heading up Thursday night if the conditions are good. So Far the Thursday night gang is:

Me
Matt C
Nadine F

If anyone else is interested let me know and we can hopefully arrange it nearer the time.

I'm on the Meanwood/Moortown boundary, so normally it would make sense to share with James, but there's a decent chance I will be able to park at work on the Thursday (so I can leave from 4pm) and I've already booked the Friday off, so I hope to join the Thursday Night Gang... I will know about parking on the 3rd January; otherwise I would have to cycle home and pick up my car (whether to drive - though it is rather small - or to get to whoever I went with...), so it would be a bit later.

I've got Friday off work, so would be up for travelling on Thursday evening if conditions look good (or even if they just look OK!) -could I put my name down for an extra night in the hut?

I'll be travelling from Otley, probably ready to go around 5:30pm.

Not sure of my plans yet, but if connies look sweet then I will also try and take Friday off. In which case I will be ready to leave Otley at 17:30.
