Sea Cliff Climbing Skills

Post by Lindsay M »

Since we are headed back to Pembroke for the August bank holiday, I have asked Peak Mountaineering about their availability for some sea cliff skills training in August for those who want to go but feel they aren't quite ready... The content of the course can be tailored to what you actually want to focus on, but can cover things like abseil approaches, how to rescue yourself if you can't climb back up etc. It will likely have a lot of overlap with last year's self rescue course and will assume that you are already a competent outdoor climber so it is not suitable for beginners.

The dates available are:
13th/14th August
20th/21st August

The cost would be £55 per person, based on groups of 4.

If you are interested, please comment below with the date(s) you could do and an indication of your current skill level and what you'd be interested in learning.

Booked for 21st August 2022

Hi Lindsay,

What kind of climbing skills does Cliff have that we will be able to see?

It would be a 1 day course, with flexibility to be on the Saturday or Sunday (assuming there are enough takers).

Thanks Lindsay

Please can you put me down for one of the days on the weekend of 20/21st August.

I have done a reasonable amount of rigging up abseils and abseiling down sea cliffs (into various situations, including hanging belays) over the years, but could do with a refresher after not having done much in the last two summers. It would be useful to look at management of your climbing ropes when abseiling down and setting up a belay on a narrow ledge or hanging belay.

I'd also like to get more practice ascending a rope.

I promise not to cry off the course this time, even if it rains. Indeed I may request to have buckets of cold salt water thrown over me...

Oh yes, and please tell the instructor that I am a bumbling punter, not a lady crusher

I'll put in a special request for cold, salty water ;)

Cool, so we just need to round up a few more takers for 20th or 21st August and we should be good to go.

Sign me up for the same weekend as a bumbling punter please!

Would prefer the salt water to be lukewarm if possible though?

You're on my list Graham but I can't promise they'll preheat the "sea spray"

I'd be interested. Need to learn basically everything sea cliff specific as I find the whole concept emotionally taxing currently.

Hi, I've just seen this but would be interested if psaces are still available. The first Saturday would be my preference if that's possible. Saturday's are usually better for me if a one day course, but I do have some flexibiity to fit around others.

The group is full at the moment but I'll get in touch if anyone drops out and/or we find another 3 people who are keen
