Walking Meet - Sat 5th Nov - Giggleswick Scar

Post by Alice »

Hello,

Peter Ainsworth has kindly offered to lead the Giggleswick Scar walk on Saturday 5th November. It's going to be a good one!

Meet in Settle at 9:30am at the market square - the Ye Olde Naked Man cafe does excellent take away sandwiches! There's free parking in the market square or if this is full, there's a pay and display car park to the north before the Co-op petrol station. For those you who might like to travel by train, Settle station is a short walk from the Market Square. There's a train from Leeds which arrives a little before 9am so time to get some breakfast!

The route is 9 miles. It's walk 22 in Great Mountain Days in the Pennines. Briefly... from Settle cross the river and head up to walk over the top of Giggleswick Scar. From here head towards Feizor and then back east towards Little Stainforth. Here the route joins the river and follows it south all the way back to Settle. (Peter has the full details!)

Plenty of pubs in Settle for a drink afterwards :)

Do post up if you'd like to join.

I am a new member and have yet to attend any meet/walk. Would I be able to go on this walk?

Hi john, yeah for walks just let people know you're coming (as you have done) so they know to look for you and then be at the meeting place :)

I believe there is a Rail Strike on Saturday for anyone who was planning on getting the train in.

Thanks Alice for picking out such a lovely walk, and a new one for me. Taking in the hills south of Settle was spooky in the lingering mist, and then rambling back on the raging river ribble was lovely, though we didn’t see any of the leaping salmon on the falls and weirs, despite October being the homecoming month.

9 miles of lovely company and country.
