After an inauspicious Friday night/Saturday morning with uncomfortable living room seating, a cold hut and a general air of gloom and mould we set off on a walk of the Roaches skyline. Sideways rain and hail greetings from the northwest continued the theme. However despite the mud underfoot, the surprise of Lud's church and a little sun through the trees improved life for the group of eight. A little afternoon warmth was welcome after sleeping with my legs stuck underneath the roof about 15cm above the top bunk.
The pub turned out to be closed but we made use of the beer garden and ate lunch followed by a trip to the brewery round the corner for the promised pint. Showers continued throughout the day putting a damper on Graham and I's attempts to get up various embarrassingly easy boulders at Robin Hoods Stride. This did though save us the indignity of walking to the second failed pub trip of the day and being refused food that the others enjoyed.
Three had bailed by this point and luckily this is where normal LMC service resumed with a huge spread of Mexican themed wraps, three puddings and a glorious Sunday of bouldering just 60 seconds walk from lunch in front of the hut. Not to mention having our own loo at the crag.
Don Whillans Hut March 2023

There was also an extractor fan, haunted by the ghost of the old crone that used to live in the hut.
