Indoor to Outdoor Trad day

Post by Will S »

Hello,

From April a lot of the Tuesday evening club meets involve outdoor trad climbing. If you have been climbing regularly indoors and would like to join the outdoor meets I'll be happy to put on a day of indoor to outdoor training.

This will consist of; what to expect at a grit crag, learning the basics of removing and placing trad protection and anchor building.

I can take up to 4 adults. If you are interested please let me know and we can get a date arranged that works for everyone, hopefully in March. This is obviously not formal training so is free, but I do have some experience instructing. Part of the advantage of being in a climbing club is receiving advice from more experience climbers. As this is how I learnt to climb, I feel like I should pass it on.

Prerequisites:
You should have paid your subs for 2020.
You should be happy leading indoors.
You will need to bring your own rock shoes, harness and helmet.

Will

Good work Will. I had a great time on last years ‘indoor to outdoor trad day’. Everything seemed to come together during and after, giving confidence in placing gear/suitable anchors/setting up ab’s etc. Newbies would be crazy to miss this opportunity!

I was also lucky enough to be part of this last year. Cannot recommend this enough.
It's a massive confidence boost and it will give you a perfect start into British trad. It's a really relaxed atmosphere and Will is an excellent teacher. Go on, sign yourself up, you will not be disappointed ;)

I’m really interested in this, depending on how well/quickly I improve at indoor lead climbing. I’m a beginner to leading at the moment but even if I could come along and watch I’d love to find out more about how it transitions to the outdoors. Thanks Will!

I have done a few similar days to this last year, I'm sure it will be great! I'm on the lookout for what's next in terms of learning outdoor climbing skills. Would be good to chat at the next opportunity.

Hi Will, this sounds brilliant, thanks for organising it. I'd love to join, I've done a little trad leading but could definitely do with skilling up.
Cheers, Joey

Hi Joey,

Nice one. I've got the weekend of the 21st 22nd March free at the moment if you have either of those free. If anyone else would like to join you are more than welcome.

Its easier to teach 2 4 people than just one.

Hopefully the peak but it will depend on the weather!

Emm and Kirsty, You guys expressed an interest earlier, seeing as how you two and Joey all have some trad experience I can alter the plan a little to include more leading and anchor
stuff as well as a little self rescue if you are interested?
