So what is this thing called Orientbeering?

Post by joeytalbot »

*******************STOP PRESS**************************

Due to the forecasts of inclement weather (in other words, rain rain and more rain), this event has been postponed.

It will now take place on Saturday 24th October. All other details will remain the same.

I hope you can all make the new date. Please respond to confirm whether you will be there.

Yours swimmingly,
Joey

***********************************************************

Orienteering? Yes I know that is. You make your way to a suitable patch of forest, armed with a high-res map on which a series of points have been marked. Then, throwing caution to the winds, you run full-pelt into the nearest bramble patch, bizarrely hoping that somewhere beyond it lies the small hollow that your map proclaims is that haven of havens, refuge of refuges, Control Point 1.

But wait, you cry! No, that wasn't the question at all. We're not here for orienteering, but for Orientbeering!

Aha! Now this is where things get interesting. So we begin pretty much the same, map in hand, spiky shrubs occupying the visual periphery. But now, instead of searching for humble control points, we are seeking out cases of FINEST ALE. As each case is reached, one can must be drunk before you are permitted to continue the quest for further beverages.

Drivers and beer haters fear not, alternative tipples will be catered for, including alcohol free or other versions, the content of which we may be open to suggestion (within reason, I must add to all you Champagne quaffers). Also note, our chosen site lies on a convenient bus route into Leeds, Otley and Ilkley.

So, if this tickles your fancy, join us at 2pm on Saturday 3rd October for a afternoon of navigational numpty in the delightful surrounds of Otley Chevin. You have been forewarned!

Joey a.k.a. the teddy bear's revenge

Edit: the powers that be have determined that this event can be maximally and most profitably run as two groups of six.

Team A for ambitious - bus stop start
1) Paul
2) Dom
3) Karl
4) Sarah
5) Claire H
6)

Meet at the Caley bus stop on the A660.

There is a bus (route X84) that leaves Leeds at 1315, which should reach here at about 1350. Going in the other direction, an X84 bus leaves Otley at 1345.

Team B for bombastic - car park start
7) Marq
8 ) Vicky
9) Julie
10) Andy
11) Kate
12)

Meet at 2pm at the car park on East Chevin Road (the uphill car park, close to the Cheerful Chili cafe

Further edit: you must bring these essential items!

- waterproofs (recommended)
- warm clothes (recommended)
- map case/clear plastic bag (recommended)

Vicky, Heather and I would like to come along if possible. A non-alcohol option needed for at least two of us!
Thanks Marq

Thanks Marq
The idea that it's you and Vicky on the soft options and Heather hitting the beers amused me greatly.

Why has it taken so long for me to discover my calling!

Also - Joey you would make an incredible communications secretary, I think you might be able to fill the Mahoosive shoes Lindsay will be leaving behind in January.
