Almscliff - 2nd August

With August round the corner, it's time for our First Tuesday meet at Almscliff!

You know the drill: No lamping, drones, wall-walking or bad parking, and we'll head to the Hunters afterwards to recount our exploits and bemoan our sandbags...

New members extra-welcome (though please sign up on the website (https://www.leedsmc.org/application) for insurance reasons and so we have emergency contact details), but we do ask that you have harness, belay plate, rockshoes and ideally a helmet, and the ability to tie in unsupervised and belay a lead climber for the climbing part of the meet; no special skills are required for the pub :)

Who's coming? I've got the day off so might well get there super-early if anyone else is able to join me super-early and the weather allows…

I intend on attending - though I may end up being sidetracked into bouldering.

Hi folks,
New member here. Joined a week or so ago.

As it happens, i'm usually out rope soloing during the week @ almscliffe anyway, was thinking perhaps tuesday this week.

Would be cool to maybe meet a few of you folk if you dont mind me coming & saying hello.

I may stick to climbing solo this week & perhaps join you guys for a climb at a later date.

-Sean

Of course, do come and say hello! As well as Almscliff, once the sun sets we wander to the Hunters (on the road back to Leeds) so do join us there as well, even if you end up rope soloing rather than joining us to climb!

Thanks, i'll make myself known at some point, any particular area you guys normally meet in? Or just spread out over the crag?

Hi David and all, I'm hoping to escape work early enough tomorrow to make it across to Almscliffe. All being well, I'll see you there. Best, Ash.

I’ll come along for this please. Do you always meet at Low Man initially?

We do indeed, or look for the LMC t-shirts if we're not there... my helmet is orange and if I'm not wearing an LMC t-shirt alone I'll be in a blue jumper or softshell

I'll be there and Hannah is planning to come too (separately) so if anyone sees a tall lady looking lost at 4:30 ish then you've found her.

If Almscliffe is unplayable do you abandon night or do any of climbers go down road to Harrogate Wall?

Disclaimer: Not the meet leader for this one but here's my take on it.

So, unless it is actively raining in the evening, it is unlikely to be cancelled. Almscliff is very exposed and there's a good breeze so it will dry very quickly and be climbable again not long after rain. I've only ever gone up there once and not been able to climb, but I've gone up there and frozen in a stiff breeze more times than I should admit to :)

I suspect that people will be more likely to go to one of the bouldering walls in Leeds then on to a pub if it gets called off BUT if you prefer routes at Harrogate then suggesting that on here like you have and seeing who is up for it is deifnitely a good plan.

Doing my best sun dance (even though I'm not coming tonight...)
