Morocco trip 2024

Post by Peter »

Thinking about winter 2023/24 here.

Had a thought that I'd like to go and do some multipitch trad in Morocco and would like to gauge interest well in advance before I start planning.

Todra gorge is fantastic for sport, such a good location! The trad in the anti-Atlas is meant to be good too (I've not tried it yet), but rather more adventurous.

Yup trad in the anti-atlas is the plan. Along with a bit of sightseeing and munching local food in the Kasbahs.

I've had several friends visit the Anti-Atlas (including for new-routing with Paul Donnithorne et al) - the feedback is very much to expect serious commitment and long run-outs. Proper adventure stuff. And getting back down can be non-trivial too!

Visited the anti-atlas a few years ago and had a great time. Climbing mostly <VS, but there would be more options VS-E1. Climbing wise it seemed like you could choose your commitment level, from chill single pitch to the more adventure style. Even managed some chill new routes. I didn't go with Paul though...

I have a guide or maybe 2 floating around too, let me know :)

I'm interested.
I've been as a tourist many times...

and once for the mountains with Corky.

It would be good to try some rock climbing, trad or sport.

I am interested in this.
I would be up for easier grade multi pitch and hiking.

An update on this;

Luke, Graham and I are going for about two weeks and staying North of Tafraoute or perhaps even north of the mountains. All the crags seem to be on the north side and the guesthouses are on the south side so we haven't settled on where to stay yet. It's looking like perhaps mid January will be the best time.

John, Norbert, Huw you are all very welcome!

I am definitely interested in this trip.
As soon as you have definite dates, flights, accommodation, etc, please post them up and I can make my own arrangements to suit.

I'm still keen.
Though it may be a bit cold in the mountains that early in the year.
Tomorrow's meteo 3/2/23 is suggesting a high of 11 degrees C. (https://freemeteo.co.uk/weather/tafraou ... ry=morocco)
I will go along with the majority but think early spring might give more options.
Cheers for the updates.

I'm also tempted by some two wheeled action - but logistics need to be worked out!
