Walking Meet - CANCELLED Saturday 15th April - Pen Y Ghent & Fountains Fell
Sorry this meet has been cancelled. Will rearrange for later in the year
Hello,
Clare Avory has kindly offered to lead our April walking meet to Pen Y Ghent and Fountains Fell. Thank you Clare!
Meeting at 10am on Silverdale Road which is a single track road between Pen Y Ghent and Fountains Fell, there is honesty box parking where the Pennine Way crosses between the two hills - please consider lift sharing for this meet as parking does look limited.
Google maps pin here for parking -> https://goo.gl/maps/HfnHnvHjK84ohbVTA
The walk is about 14 miles, but can easily be shortened (or lengthened) if people would prefer.
From the cars, the route heads up to the top of Pen Y Ghent, over Plover Hill and down to Foxup Moor. From here it turns east to the village of Foxup, along the River Skirfare to Nether Heselden, then a little further to New Bridge. From here the walk begins to return west then south on the open moorland to reach the summits on Darnbrook Fell and Fountains Fell before picking up the Peninne Way back to the cars.
As an alternative, shorter route, an option would be to return from Nether Heselden along the valley floor footpaths to the west of Pen Y Ghent.
For anyone interested here is a link of the walk with some nice photos - https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/v ... 16&t=15628#. I thought it looked rather interesting and Fountain Fell certainly looks less trodden! (It's on maps OL2 and OL30)
Please post up if you would like to join. Sadly I'll be missing this one but hopefully I'll be on the next!
Thanks, Alice

Thanks Alice. I'm hoping the weather will be fine again by the weekend. I will be driving from Shipley if anyone would like a lift

Hi Clare,
Is this still going ahead?
If so, I can reroute and pick up Kate as well.
Thanks

Hi both
Definitely going ahead if there are folk wanting to walk
Kate you are welcome to do that but I'll be leaving Saltaire around 8:30am as need to get fuel on the way. If you are happy to hop in with Tudorica it will mean less of an early start for you.
I'm climbing this evening but will keep an eye on this thread. Look forward to seeing you both tomorrow

Sweet, if there are 3 of us confirmed I’d say it’s worth going.
@Kate: do you still need picking up or shall we meet you there?

Seeing as it’s just 2 of us, I’ll give it a miss too Clare, will do a long run near me and will join the next club walk if that’s ok.
Thanks for organising, it looked good!
