UNOFFICIAL Dales Mountain Bikes & Cakes - 17-Sep-2023

Post by Graham J »

Austwick MTB - 17-Sep-2023 - 10am

Not an official meet, but if anyone wants to join for some pretty tame (but really fun) mountain biking in three peaks country then feel free to sign up!

Plan is to meet in Austwick at 10am, then ride round near Giggleswick before dropping into our first fast and flowy grassy descent and then dropping into our first cafe in Feizor. We'll pass back through Austwick and start the big climb of the day, cutting over towards Clapham before getting up high with views of the three peaks and then dropping back down for cake in Austwick via grassy fun, splashy gnar and twisty trails.

20km / 500m ascent.

This is not a hard ride, (it's graded blue in the guidebooks) and we'll be going slow and steady. It won't be an all day affair, but you'll need a bike capable of handling rough terrain. Hardtails are good. Gravel bikes should be fine. Full sus for maximum steeze.

You can hire a bike from 3 Peaks Cycles in Settle if you want to join but don't have the wheels.

Gnartastic, can't wait.

I have a spare hardtail suitable for an average sized person if anyone wants to give MTBing a go. It's reet good fun.

I would be interested and would appreciate a bike loan as mine is unlikely to be up to the job!

Depending on how tall you are I could also lend someone my old Orange 5 (which I really need to sell!)
Would suit someone from a minimum of 5 foot 8.

Oh - and from person experience, I'd strongly recommend long sleeves and long trousers as there's one big that gets quite nettley at this time of year if it's not been strimmed recently!

Forecast for next week is still a bit mixed, but I'm hoping this is still a go-er.

Any more takers?

I said I'd rearrange it...

Looks like me, Sharps and JR are going to do this ride on Sunday 17th September.

Anyone else fancy joining in?

Currently, I think my back will allow me to do this, so I'm still in.

I am interested if I could borrow a bike please, hopefully I am a bit more bike fit now even if I have to cut some of the route out.

Theo's bike is being handed to my colleagues son on Sat as he's just got into MTBing so my borrow-a-bike is no longer available I'm afraid :(

I'm still up for Sunday

Aw that is a shame but glad the bike has a good home. My bike might be ok for most of the route, but I will check out the cycle hire situation for more suspension

Well that was extremely jolly, will definitely come again. Great route and company and excellent refreshment stops. Very impressed with the Traddock, despite posh appearance very welcoming to mucky bikers

It was delightful. I love a Dales MTB jaunt especially one with big rolly grass descents. Weeeeeee
Double cake was definitely worth it.
